Get Outside, Santa Barbara!

SB healty 4

This morning I woke up earlier than usual and started my day with a hike up Jesusita trail.  Reaching the top I turned around (completely out of breath) to take in the view from Carpinteria, through Montecito, downtown, and all the way North to Goleta.  Living in a place as amazing as Santa Barbara the only thing I could think was, “Why don’t I do this every day?”

Making my decent down the mountain I started putting together a list in my head of other fun and healthy activities this town has to offer.  Ways to get out of the gym and really take advantage of the perks that come with living in Santa Barbara.   By the time I had reached the bottom I had forgotten half the ideas I had come up with but even so, here are a few of the gems.

With dozens of trails in the SB area, hiking alone could have you exploring a new route every day for weeks, most ending in a breathtaking view point, waterfall or other rarely seen destination.  Most trailheads are just a few minute drive from the downtown area or highway making this an amazing and convenient way to get your work out in.

Of course living on the water opens the doors for any number of great water activities.  Surfing and stand up paddle boarding are always an excellent source of exercise and inspiration.  If you are new to the sports, A-Frame Surf Shop on Santa Claus Lane is always a great place to start.  Rentals and lessons are available from their friendly staff and the shore break in front of the shop is perfect for beginners.

For some, being near the water is great but actually getting in is another matter.  If you fall into this category I would strongly recommend a jog, run or stroll down the Cabrillo Blvd. bike path.  Stretching from the Mesa all the way to Butterfly Beach in Montecito this is a great place to catch some rays while getting in the zone.  Bicycle rentals are available on lower State Street if you are more comfortable on two wheels and the East Beach volleyball courts are a great pit stop to pick up a game or two.

Kayaking, softball leagues, boot camps, golf…  The list of ways to get outside and experience Santa Barbara goes on and on.  If you live here currently I strongly encourage you to give any and all of these a try.  If you live elsewhere, I know a good local Realtor.  Contact us any time at www.HomesInSantaBarbara.com.
