This week we got a chance to take the pleasant 40 minute drive over San Marcos Pass into the Santa Rita Hills and experience one of the worlds finest wine regions. Because of the unique orientation of our coastal mountain ranges the area is warm in the day and cooled by ocean breezes at night offering the perfect environment for growing grapes. The towns of Santa Ynez and Los Olivios are known for their Pinot Noir but it is not hard to fine any varietal to suit your tastes.
On this particular day trip we got a chance to visit the Dierberg, Qupe and Beckmen Wineries. All offer an amazing tasting menu, bottles for purchase, and breathtaking ground to sit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. It is always fun to bring a picnic or cheese and crackers to nibble on while you sip.
This incredible day trip is yet another reason why we are blessed to live in such an amazing place. Santa Barbara is a paradise and it is nice to know that our neighbors are not so bad either.
