An unincorporated though contiguous suburb of Santa Barbara, Hope Ranch is one of the most affluent enclaves in California, with the median prices of Hope Ranch real estate hovering around $3 million.
The civilized history of the 2,000 acre tract dates to around 6,000 ago when it was home to Native Americans. It was purchased in the mid-1800’s for sheep ranching by government agent Thomas Hope, was owned for a time by Southern Pacific Railroad, then was purchased in 1923 by Harold Chase.
The verdant gently rolling topography of Hope Ranch, and its proximity to one of the most beautiful stretches of California coastline has made it the perfect setting for just under 700 residences; many of the homes in Hope Ranch are luxurious estates perched on dramatic bluffs and with access to a private beach. The neighborhood hosts numerous recreational facilities. Among them are soccer and polo fields, tennis courts, baseball diamonds and the exclusive La Cumbre Golf and Country Club. The club’s historic 18-hole golf course is built around picturesque Laguna Blanca.
